The Cariboo Chilcotin is BC's Old West, land of cattle ranches and the Williams Lake stampede, home of historic Barkerville and the Cariboo gold rush trail. The landscape bears the scars of wagon train ruts and abandoned gold claims, and is dotted with the homesteads of those who settled this area little more than a century ago. The Cariboo Chilcotin is also home to some of BC's strongest First Nations communities, with their heritage, culture and influence felt throughout the region. In the summer, rodeos are almost a weekly occurrence somewhere in the region, so if you'd like to see some true western cattle roping or steer wrestling, chances are it's just up the road. Tired of the hustle and bustle of city life, of long days on the dusty highways and byways? Then come unhitch your wagon, unload the boat, kick up your feet and stay a while in the Cariboo Chilcotin.
